"Don't be blind to changes around you.
You never know when you are able to see your childhood again."
This statement slapped me awake.
We have been so focused in living our hectic lives that we forgot to stop, take a look around us, and enjoy the surroundings. We are so into the practical world of earning money, securing that very rice bowl needed for our loved ones, and we forgot about ourselves.
Took myself out for a run earlier today, and as I passed by champions way, nostalgia struck me. The scenery there has changed. A lot. Buildings sprang up, Less greenery, and... more traffic.
I was immediately brought back to the past 7 years ago, while the whole stretch of virgin land couldn't be better to the eyes. We all had a fun time there back then. Though not much entertainment, but well, who says entertainment items are needed for human interaction? We just had ourselves to enjoy with, and that innocence in friendship was the one that made my heart root itself deep onto this plot of land.
Soon, the greenery has to make way for future developments. People I know had started to occupy a new neighbourhood, once a clear piece of field just outside my futsal court. It started to grow. I will not say for the worse, but it started to take away the feel within me. And piecing the images of what the place was once, and itself now, just made my heart ache to the memories that somewhat got eroded by the word "future".
It is just a reminder to myself, actually. I know it can't be stopped, but at least appreciate what you once have, and treasure it before it is gone before you know it. Print it hard on our memory so that it does your childhood justice. Glad to say I've done my primary school life justice, and knowing that the old building was still good, and my primary school friends are still with me, I can't be happier. Hopefully I can carry on this appreciation for my JC days. Given the increased difficulty due to a stronger sense of direction, one naturally focuses less on his surroundings. Me ditto.
So many events in my life that this statement can apply on.
